SUMMARY: Solipsism means the belief that self is the only reality. *This story was written for Haven's Word of the Day Challenge.* ------------------------------------ Solipsism Written by: Erin M. Blair ------------------------------------ "Mulder? Are you OK?" She walked closer to her partner who was sitting behind the desk, looking at his neatly sharpened pencils. "I'm just sitting and thinking, Scully." She sat down in her chair, looking at him. She wondered what brought on this mood. "Of what, exactly?" "Solipsism." "That's a philosophical theory holding that the self can know nothing but its own modifications and that the self is the only existent thing," said Scully. "What brought this on?" "Folie a deux," said Mulder. "After we both saw that monster. I wondered if that was just my own reality thinking that Pincus was a zombie. I felt like I lost something back there." "You weren't the only one, Mulder." "I know that, Scully. I just wondered if it was my own reality causing the illusion. I thought I was really going crazy. It bothered me that no one believed me. I felt like I was the only person in existence and everyone around me was playing into what Pincus wanted to believe. I felt lost, Scully." "I know, Mulder. In the end, I came through for you. I believed you. I still put my faith in you. Please remember that," Scully said as she got up from her chair to hold Mulder, to comfort him. "I'll remember, Scully." -- the end -- Feedback: Yes, please. Send to: eblair@sonic.net Author's Notes: This was written in response to the Haven's Word Challenge, due today.
