Blair -------------------------------------------- "Mommy! Daddy!" I saw Katherine walking downstairs from her bedroom after I had put her to bed. I smiled at Mulder, and I whispered into his ear. "I wonder what story she wants us to tell..." "I don't know, Scully. Tell her a good story. Your turn," Mulder said, with a sigh. "Last night when you were working on an autopsy at Quantico, she wanted me to tell her about one of our cases... You know, the attacking computer?" "That killing computer at Eurisko?" I asked as he nodded. "Mulder! She's only four years old!" "I'm not a baby," Katherine replied, with a frown. Her cherubic hands touched my hand, and I saw her similar features that she had inherited from me along with the auburn hair. "I don't want you to hear about any of our cases, and I certainly don't want you to have nightmares... I want you to know about the stories that I grew up with," I said, with a sigh. I gave Mulder a look which told him that I was upset with him. "I liked Daddy's story..." "See, Scully? She loves to listen to them. I can't help it. She finds them entertaining..." "Mulder---" I frowned. "I don't know." "Mommy, I want to hear the story," Katherine said, with a plea in her tone of voice. She looked at me with those hazel eyes that she had inherited from Mulder. For a second, she gave me a puppy dog look which I'm sure that Mulder had taught her. "All right," I said, with a sigh. "I'll tell you a story." "Yay!" Katherine exclaimed, happily. She lifted herself onto my lap. "You're getting to be a big girl, aren't you?" I asked, as I held her. "Yes," she said, as she smiled at me. Absentmindedly, I smoothed her hair. It felt soft to the touch, and I noticed that she had curls at the ends. It was like mine when I was her age. "Want me to go to the study?" Mulder asked, as he gazed into my blue eyes. I guess that he knew that this was a moment for Katherine and myself. "Only if you want to," I replied, softly. "Mommy..." Mulder laughed. "Katherine's getting rather impatient, Scully. I think that you should start the story..." "Don't worry, Mulder, I will." I paused. "I think that you'd better do the paperwork. You know impatient *Skinner* is." I watched Mulder nod, and he left the living room to go to our study. I know how much Mulder needed to work on the bureaucratic work that we had to fill out whenever we go on a case. "Mommy... Tell me a story about when you met Daddy..." "You don't want me to tell you a scary X-File?" I asked, shocked. Katherine nodded. I drew a deep breath. I tried to find the words to tell her how Mulder and I met. "Mulder and I met while we're both at Quantico." "What 'contico?" she asked. "It's a place where we learn how to be an FBI agent... Your father was profiling the bad guys at the time, and he came to me to ask me if I could work on an autopsy. I did, and we started to chat..." "What did you talk about?" "Oh, I don't remember... We talked about our jobs... The weather... Stuff like that. We decided to go on dates, and we fell in love. One day, he asked me to marry him. I said, "yes!" We got married, and then, we had you." I looked down at her, and I noticed that she drifted off to sleep. I carried her up to her bedroom, and Mulder walked in. "She fell asleep." Mulder grinned. "Happens everytime. Whenever I tell her a story, she's out like a light." He watched me tuck Katherine in, and I turned to face him. "What X-File?" "She didn't want to hear an X-File, Mulder. She wanted to know how we met." "You didn't tell her the PG story, did you?" "No. The "G" rated version. I didn't want her to know how we met when I was cutting open the dead man that you sent to me from the Boston crime scene," I said, with a sigh. "Mulder, that version would scare her." "I know. At least, the simple version is a lot easier for her to understand." Mulder paused, and then he touched Katherine's cheek. "She's so peaceful. I'm glad that we met like that...and had her." "Me too." We walked downstairs together, as we tried not to disturb our daughter's sleep. "Mulder?" "Yes?" "I can't imagine my life not having both you and Katherine in it." "I know," Mulder said, with a whisper. He paused. "I feel the same way. Aren't you glad that you told Katherine a story?" I nodded. "Yes." Mulder sighed. "She's going to ask you to tell her a story again." "I know. She'll want to hear more. You know something, Mulder?" "What?" "I'm looking forward to it." End of Story.
