Author's Note: I was going to write about a different spin of this story where Mulder meets Katherine for the first time when Scully was missing. In the story, he had no idea that he's her father. Someday, I might do that story but this one took over my brain. This is set in an alternate universe of the "Discovery" series. Dedications/Special Thanks: I would like to thank my beta readers for helping me with this story. Feedback: Most appreciated and wanted. =) I love receiving mail from people. Summary: Little Katherine asks her father, Fox Mulder, where her mother is. -------------------------------------- Where's Mommy? Written by: Erin M. Blair -------------------------------------- "Where's Mommy?" I just got in the door when Katherine asked me about Scully. "She's not here?" I looked around for Scully, and I could see the glass near the window. I walked towards the couch, and I could see blood on the fabric. I could only guess that it's Scully's. I looked at our daughter, and it doesn't appear that she's hurt. "No," she said, in a small voice. Her blue eyes were dark with worry. "Mommy's not here." She walked closer towards me, and she grabbed my leg with her cherubic hands. "Katie..." "Daddy, where's Mommy?" I could tell Katherine was frightened for her Mommy. I was scared for Scully myself. In my head, I was panicking as I want to find her *now*, but I know that Scully would want me to make sure that Katherine wouldn't be too frightened. I have to be calm even though I wasn't. I bent down, and I picked Katherine up. She was getting too heavy to be picked up. "Daddy! Put me down." She giggled nervously, as I ruffled her auburn hair. From the photos Scully had shown me from when she was little, our daughter looked so much like her mother. "I'm going to find out, Katie. Don't worry." I dialed in to get my messages from the answering machine at my apartment. Even though I had been married to Scully for five years, I still kept my apartment to work on the X-Files. It was my office. My private space. Sure enough, there was a message from Scully about the metallic chip that was extracted from Duane Barry, and then, I could hear her screaming my name for help. "What's wrong, Daddy?" Katherine asked, worriedly. I know that I should comfort her about her Mommy, and reassure her that everything will be all right. "Your mother was taken away," I said, with a shaky sigh. How do I explain to our daughter that her mother--my Scully--was kidnapped by Duane Barry? I couldn't believe it but the answering machine message confirmed my fears. That my Scully was taken by a disturbed man. I'm scared. I'm scared for her and our daughter. "Why?" "I don't know why, Katie. We're going to find her. I promise you that," I said, asssuringly. I know we're going to find Scully. I know that. "Are you sure, Daddy?" Katherine asked, skeptically. She arched her eyebrows in the same manner that Scully usually did when she listened to my theories. Like mother, like daughter. After all, we did name her Katherine Dana Mulder after Scully. "I want to believe that we will find her. I know we will," I replied, as I held Katherine in my arms. With my fingers, I touched her own cross necklace which was similar to Scully's. I knew that I was going to need all of our faith to bring her back to us. End of Vignette.
